Today as part of a History trip we visited the Gaelic museum in Croke Park. We left at 12'oc and arrived home at 4. It was a great day out, probably the best Ty day out. It was so interesting and fun. We were brought to a room and we watched a video about the preparation for a match. It was about 20 minutes long. It was really interesting.
Then we went out under the stands and he talked to us a bit about what happens when there is a big game on. We then went into what was known "the best known secret" also known as the lounge where the players go after a match and talk to eachother, have some food and have a drink. He said some teams dont go in there if they have lost a match as they are that upset. He said Dublin teams never go in there , they go straight to the gym or go for a swim which shows there profession. The lounge was beautiful the chandler was made out of Waterford crystal , they were in the shape of Gaelic footballs and sliotars. They change to any colour they want which is pretty cool.
Then we went to the changing rooms were all the jerseys were layed out. We talked to us about the atmosphere of the changing rooms on a big game. He said some people dont talk they are that nervous. After we went to a room where the players can go for physio or kick a ball around to relieve stress.
Then we were taken to the actual pitch which was pretty amazing because it is so big , everyone ran out the tunnel like a team. We talked to us then about the preperation of the game and he even talked talked to us about the preparing of a concert. He said the screens in the stadium are the biggest screens in Europe. We went up to the very top which was pretty scary.
After we went to a room that was rented out by Ulster Bank which costs 240,000 to rent for 10 years , so they get free tickets to every match.
That was the end of the tour now we were free to do what we wanted. There was games upstairs which was really fun. Some people played the games and the others went to the cafeteria. Then it was the bus journey home. It was a GREAT day.
