Today as part of a History trip we visited the Gaelic museum in Croke Park. We left at 12'oc and arrived home at 4. It was a great day out, probably the best Ty day out. It was so interesting and fun. We were brought to a room and we watched a video about the preparation for a match. It was about 20 minutes long. It was really interesting.
Then we went out under the stands and he talked to us a bit about what happens when there is a big game on. We then went into what was known "the best known secret" also known as the lounge where the players go after a match and talk to eachother, have some food and have a drink. He said some teams dont go in there if they have lost a match as they are that upset. He said Dublin teams never go in there , they go straight to the gym or go for a swim which shows there profession. The lounge was beautiful the chandler was made out of Waterford crystal , they were in the shape of Gaelic footballs and sliotars. They change to any colour they want which is pretty cool.
Then we went to the changing rooms were all the jerseys were layed out. We talked to us about the atmosphere of the changing rooms on a big game. He said some people dont talk they are that nervous. After we went to a room where the players can go for physio or kick a ball around to relieve stress.
Then we were taken to the actual pitch which was pretty amazing because it is so big , everyone ran out the tunnel like a team. We talked to us then about the preperation of the game and he even talked talked to us about the preparing of a concert. He said the screens in the stadium are the biggest screens in Europe. We went up to the very top which was pretty scary.
After we went to a room that was rented out by Ulster Bank which costs 240,000 to rent for 10 years , so they get free tickets to every match.
That was the end of the tour now we were free to do what we wanted. There was games upstairs which was really fun. Some people played the games and the others went to the cafeteria. Then it was the bus journey home. It was a GREAT day.

Sometimes in April...
In religion we have doing some work on a film called Sometimes in April. We have been going through what a genocide and an American genocide is to help us prepare for the movie so we could understand it more. We started to watch it but unfortunately the bell went.
Heres a small clip of the movie....

Brian told us all about the swim and what the background was to this swim. It is to raise money for Crumlin's children hospital and Barretstown because this is were Ian would of went whilst he had his brain tumor. Its a very moving story.
You can swim in groups or you can swim the full 64 lengths on your own. Were given sponsorship cards to help raise money. I am really looking forward to this, better start training ...

So whoever is interested in going gives permission slips to Ms L and Ms Kb and there will be a draw soon. Hopefully i will get to go because there are alot of things planned and i didnt get to go to Paris in 2nd year. We will be staying Krakow. We will be doing things like visiting that Auschwitz concentration camp, going to Schnlinders factory ,visiting the birthplace of Pope John Paul II, shopping and going to a water park. It would be great fun , hopefully i get picked to go :)
Who wants to be a Millionaire?.... I doo :) ..
Seeing as we had a small amount of people in Irish on Wednesday we played "Who wants to be a Millionaire" in Irish with Mr Seery. Mr Seery was 'Hector' from TG4's version of Who wants to be a Millionaire. Instead of normal questions , he asked us questions related to Irish Verbs. We started off on €100 and ended up getting to €4000. I was the music person and played the music in the background to make it more fun and realistic. There was a lot of suspense in the room , with the music and Mr Seerys very realistic acting skills. It was something different then just learning from a book, it was so much fun.
Schindlers List....
In history we were watching Schindlers List because it was a very small class. The class had started watching this movie before Christmas, unfortunately i was out sick. The movie is set during World War II where a businessman, Oskar Schindler saves thousands of Jews by sending them to work in a factory. It is a very sad movie as innocent people are killed but it is very interesting and helps alot to understand more of what happened back then. Here is a short clip of the movie...

Chocolate souffles ? ...
In home-ec on Tuesday as part of our international cuisine project me and Grace R made chocolate souffles from Italy. There really easy to make. All u need is eggs, chocolate, caster sugar and butter. First you melt the chocolate , then whisk the egg whites and add caster sugar bit by bit until its able to be held upside down without falling. Add the egg yolks to the melted chocolate. Then put the both mixtures into a big bowl and mix. Then put the mixture into ramekins and cook in the oven for 10-20 minutes. They turned out amazing and thank god they didn't fall in the middle. It was our first time making these and they turned out really well , we let them cool down then we sprinkled icing sugar on the top for design

Movement Workshop...
On Thursday the 3rd of February , all Transition Years had a movement workshop with a guy called Ian in the hall for 2 classes. First of all Ian introduced himself and told us what we would be doing. We then got into a big circle for our warm up. We played different games to warm ourselves up. The warm up was really fun. After being warmed up we had to get with a person you felt comfortable working with. Then each pair had to say whether they were A or B then we started off doing this thing were A had to make a shape with their body and B had to fill in the shape with their leg and arms. Sounds hard but was pretty easy. We had to pick 2 shapes we liked. Now we were on our own, we had to get from one shape to another in 8 beats, then 4, then 2, then 1. It was all about how you can move from one shape to another neatly and fast, like on a stage , you want to move freely around the stage. I thought it was useful and very interesting but was also great fun :)

After me making fouls because i dont know how to play we still won by a goal.It was really fun and im thinking of taking it up now .. :)
Hmmm A Career as a chef? Maybeee ...
In home-economics we are doing an International Cuisine project, where you have to pick and research a country of your interest. When you have picked your country you have to cook 3 dishes from that country, 2 savoury and 1 sweet. Me and Grace picked Italy as it has great food and its really interesting. On Tuesday we cooked Pasta Carbonara and home made Garlic Bread. It went really well. It was gorgeous. Me and Grace were panicking in case it didn't turn out well but surprisingly it did. It was both our first time to cook this dish. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Everyones food seemed to turn out good. After tasting everyones we had to clean up , which is the worst part of cooking ..
We sing a song to Bridget....
On Monday , in religion class we made St Bridget crosses. It was really good fun, i havent made one since 6th class. While making our St Bridget crosses Ms K'B played some music , she played we sing a song to Bridget. What a great way to start of a Monday morning. Amina made 3 St Bridget Crosses and we gave one to Ms.B, Ms.S and Ms.L. Later on in Music me and Bebhinn made more with Mr.K because Ms.G was absent, poor Mr.K spent the whole weekend out picking rushes, unlucky ...
Mini Company - Beady Bits ..
Last Friday Orla came into our school to see how our mini company is coming along. She went through each group to see how everything was. She seemed really impressed with all of our groups. Some groups are more ahead then others. She said that my group could make 4000e in profit which is great news :). My group consists of 5 others, Alison L, Lauren T , Bebhinn C , Davina J and Lauren M. We are a that makes bracelets, we buy our beads in Yellow Brick Road, make the bracelets then sell them for 2.50/3.00 it depends. We get pink beads and we make pink bracelets and the profit from the selling of these bracelets goes to Action Breast Cancer which is a very worthwhile charity. They gave us ribbons and buckets to help collect money for them. So far we have sold around 20-50 bracelets and have made over 100e for charity and more than 70e for ourselves all within 4 days of selling. Its great fun making and selling the bracelets. Its also great to know that the money we make is going to this great charity. Its the small things that goes a long way...

Im Gunna Take You Out to Mullingaaaar .....
25th Of January all Ty students headed off to Mullingar for the Briery Gap Competion. We left school at 9.10 and didn't arrive there till around 10.30 the bus journey was good fun singing to music. As we came closer to Mullingar Arts Centre the nerves set in. When we got off the bus we headed straight for the centre. When we arrived there , we got put into a room to get ready to perform. No other schools were there yet , so all the actors were not as nervous. Noughts and Crosses went first, then Time Of Your Life, then But You Didn't and last but not least Driving Under The Influence. Every play went amazing. They even made the audience cry. the judge had great things to say about our plays and she gave us tips on what to do in the future if we get through to the finals. After we all had performed we went and had our lunch in Mullingar Village. When we had finished we went back to the Art Centre to find students from Kilkenny and Galway there getting ready to perform there plays. We watched all there plays and even made new friends they were lovely :) After that we had another long bus journey home. The day was great and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves :)
Young Scientist & Sci-Fest...
January the 14th all Transition Year and Second year students went to the Rds for the Young Scientist. Me and Lauren Tierney had entered it along with the rest of Ty students, but unfortunately we didn't get through, only one group from Ty got through , well done to Sh, Ab and Ke who got through. The got highly recommended by the judges which is a great achievement. It was a great day for all ,it was great craic and very educational. We went around looking at the different projects and we watched Robot Wars in the circus tent. We got to mix with other schools which was good. They were from all over Ireland. Now me and Lauren have entered our project into SciFest which is something like the Young Scientist. Our project is on the effects of caffeine on the human body. We are doing our research on it at the moment. I hope we go far in this competition :)

Clock Making...
In Technology for the past few days we have been making clocks. Its made out of green perspex. Myself and a few others done technology in 1st , 2nd & 3rd year , so we have to help the other students. Each year in tech we have made these clocks so now i have 4 of them. It only took 3 tech classes to finish the clock. Its quite easy to make them. First you mark out your dimensions , then you start cutting off your excess material. When that's done you smooth file the piece to make it smooth. Then you drill the hole where the clock arms will fit through. After all that bend the plastic with the strip heater, put the plastic on the strip heater and when u see the middle of it "melting" then you know its ready to be bent, bend it back and let it cool down. That's the hard part over. Now all you need to do is get your clock pieces and add them on . Then go around the finished clock with emri paper. Wahlaa Finito :)
